board1-robert-kellyRobert Kelly served as President and CEO of the San Diego Foundation, which provides leadership for effective philanthropy, for two decades. In that capacity, he oversaw all activities, programs and asset management during a time of significant growth and achievements that have benefitted the entire San Diego region. Prior to joining The San Diego Foundation, Bob served as the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society in served as President and CEO of the San Diego Foundation, which provides leadership for effective philanthropy, for two decades. In that capacity, he oversaw all activities, programs and asset management during a time of significant growth and achievements that have benefitted the entire San Diego region. Prior to joining The San Diego Foundation, Bob served as the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society in served as President and CEO of the San Diego Foundation, which provides leadership for effective philanthropy, for two decades. In that capacity, he oversaw all activities, programs and asset management during a time of significant growth and achievements that have benefitted the entire San Diego region. Prior to joining The San Diego Foundation, Bob served as the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society in San Diego and Vice President of Southern California. He also spent significant time with Sharp Health Care, where he served as Assistant to the President and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Sharp Health Care Foundation. Bob also worked as Senior Vice President for CCP and Associates – a comprehensive cancer center consulting firm. Mr. Kelly’s commitment to community is clearly reflected in his involvement in community services activities, including time spent as a board member of the San Diego Symphony Foundation, the San Diego Real Estate Foundation, Beauchamp Charities, Sharp Healthcare, the Children’s Initiative, and League of California Community Foundations. He is a past President of the UCSD Alumni Association, past Board Chair of Youth for Progress, and past Board Chair of San Diego Grantmakers. He has also served on the boards of the San Diego Chamber Foundation, the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, the Elsinore Cattle Co. and the International Community Foundation. He is a member of the Downtown Rotary and a graduate of the University of California, San Diego. At the present time his positions include:

board2-jim-wilson Jim Wilson had a long and distinguished career in the aeronautical industry. He spent the last 10 years of his career as the Corporate Vice President of Quality Assurance for Rohr Industries in San Diego. Upon retirement Jim volunteered as a consultant with San Diego City College for a Government sponsored program for local manufacturing companies teaching methods for process improvement. He has served on a number of committees and boards over the years including:

  • San Diego United Way, Allocations Committee
  • President, American Society for Quality Control, Aerospace and Defense Division
  • Boy Scouts of America Troupe 506, La Jolla, CA He resides in Borrego Springs and is presently serving as
  • President, Board of Directors Christmas Circle Community Park Borrego Springs
  • Director, Board of Directors Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association
  • Trustee, Community United Methodist Church, Borrego Springs, CA
  • Vice President, Borrego Valley Endowment Fund

board3-dick-hasselbring Dick Hasselbring is the majority stockholder of Transport Data Systems, a software development and system engineering firm located in San Diego, California. He earned his Bachelor (1964) and Masters Degrees (1965) from the University of Illinois. He formed his own company in 1993 to provide high end license plate readers and vehicle profilers to the transportation industry. Prior to that, he held a number of senior executive positions with ITT, Litton Industries, Cubic Corporation and Aydin Corporation. For the past 10 years he has made his home in Borrego Springs where he is a member of the De Anza Country Club and has served on their Board of Directors. He is the Secretary of the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund.


board3-sylvana-meeks Sylvana Meeks has served the community of Borrego Springs as a member and president of the Borrego Springs Unified School District Board of Directors, The Borrego Art Institute Board of Directors, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Miss Borrego Springs Pageant Director, president of the Borrego Springs Rotary Club, Assistant District Governor, Chief Assistant Governor, and the District Governor’s Aide for Rotary District 5340, and the treasurer for the Borrego Springs Rotary Foundation Board of Directors. She is a co-Broker/Owner of Coldwell Banker Borrego and currently Borrego Springs Honorary Mayor. Sylvana is a Member of the Coldwell Banker International Diamond Society for Production.


board4-john-porterJohn Porter graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1960 with a degree in engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in California and Colorado. He spent most of his professional career employed by Solar Turbines, part of Caterpillar. He retired in 2001 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. John has been married for over 50 years to Ruth Porter. John’s interests included church, music, and golf. John and Ruth divide their year between Coronado and Borrego Springs.


board5-david-garmonDavid Garmon is a psychiatrist in private practice in San Diego, California. He earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 1979, an MD from the University of Arkansas in 1984, and completed residency training at the University of California, San Diego in 1988. He has served on several medical related boards and was President and CEO of Scripps Behavioral Health Associates. When not practicing medicine, David is an intrepid traveler, an avid tennis player, and an aspiring golfer. He also values the solitude, rugged beauty and rejuvenation to be found in the Sonoran Desert.


board6-brude-kelleyBruce Kelley has a BS in health economics and a MS and PhD in Preventive Medicine from the College of Medicine at OSU. Bruce retired in 2012 after a 37 year career as manager in a state health department, executive of a managed care firm and practice leader in two large health benefit consulting firms. Bruce and his wife, Ellen Gavin, spend their summers in Minneapolis and winters in Borrego Springs. Bruce’s volunteer work in Borrego Springs includes being on the Board of the BVEF, co-directing the wellness incentive program at the RoadRunner Club in Borrego Springs, and leading a hiking group. His other activities and interests include health care consulting, blogging, golf, biking and pickleball.


board7-joe-cussenJoe Cussen has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and also taken advanced business and finance studies. He had a very successful career managing high technology companies from the early stages of product research and development through successful product release to the market. One such example included a company working with the Federal Reserve and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to develop a counterfeit deterring device located on the face of US banknotes. This business has now been in business for over 20 years. Joe moved to Borrego Springs in October 2012 from Friday Harbor [San Juan Islands] Washington. He is an active bicyclist, assists many of the bicycle related activities in the area and is a champion of improved local roads for all. He has served on several non-profit Boards.


board8-marshal-brecht Marshal Brecht is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice here in California. He earned a Bachelor Degree in 1973 from California State University Fullerton. He opened his own firm in 1976 and still provides accounting and tax services to a small number of individuals and small businesses. He and his wife Janet for the last 10 years have called Borrego Springs home for most of the year. He has served on the board of the Borrego Water District (2010 – 2014) and currently serves on the board of the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund and as a committee member at the de Anza Country Club.


board10-dennis-seabold Dennis Seabold was the owner and Chief Operations Officer of AL-ROY DRILLING, INC., providing soil drilling services to Geotechnical and Soils Engineering firms in Southern California, Arizona & Nevada. After a 34 year career, Dennis retired in 2010. Upon his retirement he and his wife Kate left their home in Orange County and became full-time residents of Borrego Springs. Since that time he has become an active member of deAnza Country Club, serving on various committees and on the Board of Directors as Vice President. He has served on the BVEF board since 2012. He enjoys the peacefulness of Borrego and exploring the desert in his Jeep when not playing golf and traveling.


board11-lorry-seagrim Lorraine (Lorry) Seagrim graduated from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (1962) in Montreal Canada as a registered nurse. After nursing in the operating room in Canada, the US and Australia, she attended San Diego State and earned a BSN (1984) and a MN (Masters in Nursing Administration, 1994) from the University of Phoenix. She spent 20 years working for Kaiser Permanente, San Diego in various positions as a registered nurse in the operating room, patient educator and education consultant, As a consultant, she was involved in regulatory issues, developed classes for graduate nurses, nurse externs and new graduate programs at the local and corporate level. In 1998, she and colleague developed & implemented a Community Survey in Borrego Springs focusing on the need for Homecare. Based on the results, Desert Home Care (1999) open its doors which later became a Home Health agency under the umbrella of the Borrego Medical Foundation. In 2001, she retired from Kaiser when Lorry made her home in Borrego Springs to devote her time to Desert Home Care. Since retiring from Desert Home Care, Lorry spends the winter months in Borrego Springs and the summers in British Columbia, Canada. Lorry’s experience includes:

  • President of Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Gamma Chapter of SDSU,1989
  • Developed and implemented a nurse extern program & new graduate program
  • Site Coordinator for Holy Names University master’s program & Cal State Fullerton BSN program via teleconference
  • Formed & administered Desert Home Care
  • Wrote several grants for Desert Home Care
  • Coordinated & taught several Certified Nurse Programs for Desert Home Care
  • CPR Instructor
  • Secretary for Borrego Community Health Society
